Generic Crime

For a second time, fast food meant fast cash.

Two Gainesville men were charged Wednesday night after Gainesville Police said they stole about $940 from a McDonald’s drive-thru window last month, according to a police report.

At about 11 p.m. on March 9, Thomas Jerome Lundy, 18, drove to the McDonald’s on Northwest 43rd Street with Aubrey Desean Strong, 19, according to the report.

As Lundy waited nearby, Strong walked up to the drive-thru window and grabbed a cash drawer, which held about $940. He then got back into the car, and the two left the scene, according to the report.

Lundy then drove to a separate McDonald’s location, where the two were once employed, and threw away the emptied cash drawer in a dumpster, according to the report.

The McDonald’s manager later told police it cost about $400 to replace the box.

Lundy kept about $200 while Strong kept $700, according to the report.

The two were already booked into the Alachua County Jail for another drive-thru burglary at the Taco Bell on Southwest Archer Road on March 26. The men stole $670 in a cash box through the drive-thru window, but were eventually found and arrested after store employees ran after Lundy and Strong.

Both men are currently in jail, each in lieu of a $190,000 bond. Both now face two burglary and two larceny charges each.
