Balls bar’s general manager will spend nine days in the Alachua County Jail after a judge found him guilty of his second DUI on May 25.
Timothy Blakey, 30, was booked into jail Wednesday at noon, and he will remain there until Friday, according to Alachua County court records. He is required to pay about $1,500 in fees, and he will serve the rest of his sentence a few days at a time in the coming weeks.
Eighth Judicial Circuit Judge Denise Ferrero also revoked Blakey’s license for five years, according to court records. In the future, a breathalyzer will be installed in his car for one year.
He is not allowed to drink alcohol or use drugs, according to the records, and he will be randomly tested for both. Blakey must also successfully complete the Advanced DUI Substance course.
On Dec. 29 at about 1:07 a.m., Blakey drove past a stop sign and then drifted from side to side within his lane, catching the attention of University Police, according to a police report. He then drove through a four-way stop, causing the police to pull him over.
Blakey told an officer he was traveling from Balls, located at 1716 W. University Ave., where he drank two or three shots, according to the report. The officer noted Blakey’s bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, along with the smell of alcohol on his breath.
Police arrested Blakey on a charge for driving while under the influence of alcohol after he performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the report.
Authorities took Blakey to the UF Police Department, where he registered .138 and .131 on a breath test, according to the court report.
