A head-on car crash Sunday evening killed two women, one from Gainesville and the other from Waldo.

At about 6:30 p.m., Brittany Nichole Griswell, 28, of Gainesville, was driving westbound in the 6900 block of Northeast 39th Avenue when she lost control of her car on a long curve in the road, according to a statement released by Gainesville Police.

As Griswell’s 2010 Toyota Corolla left the road, she overcorrected her driving and swerved into eastbound traffic, according to the statement.

Drenda Dale Weaver, 52, of Waldo, was driving eastbound in a 2015 Nissan Sentra when Griswell’s car struck her, killing Weaver at the scene, according to the statement.

The impact threw Griswell from her seat and onto the road. She was later pronounced dead after suffering serious injuries, according to the statement.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. GPD is currently conducting a traffic homicide investigation, according to the statement.
