A former employee of 101 Cantina was arrested Monday after reportedly stealing more than $5,000 from the Midtown venue, Gainesville Police said.

At about 5 a.m. Friday, Jarrid Antonio Bernier, 25, walked into the restaurant and tequila bar at 1632 W. University Ave. and disabled its security cameras, but not before the cameras spotted him stealing cash from its safe, according to the report.

In total, Bernier made away with $5,200, according to the report. The money was later returned.

The manager of Cantina watched the security video with a GPD officer and identified Bernier, according to the report.

He had been at 101 Cantina the night before wearing the same clothes as in the video, according to the report.

He was hired about seven months ago, and quit before the incident, according to the report.

Police arrested Bernier on charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure and grand theft between $5,000 and $10,000. Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail, where he was later released on his own recognizance Tuesday.

Bernier, who had no previous charges according to the Alachua County Court records, declined to comment. He was issued a standing no contact order by the Clerk of the Court on Tuesday.
