Local McDonald’s to offer digital ordering machines

Gainesville McDonald’s customers can soon order meals through a digital, self-service kiosk.

The McDonald's, located at 2880 NW 13th St., is the first Gainesville location to install the new kiosks, said J.J. Ditty, the store manager. At least two kiosks were recently installed as a part of the national corporation's campaign to modernize the fast food dining experience.

Customers can pay with a credit or debit card directly at the kiosk or print their receipt and pay at the cash register, said Diana Barker, the hiring manager at the Gainesville corporate office. They can also use Apple or Android Pay. The kiosks show the menu and allow customers to select their choices and customize it.

Calvin Paris, the owner and operator of all Gainesville McDonald’s, declined to say how much the kiosks and improvements would cost in an email. He said with the new table service at the location, more will be hired.

The machines will be working as soon as possible, Barker said. The kiosks have shown discontinued promotional items, and there have been a few incidents in which the software wouldn’t accept different types of payment.

“They just finished the install and they are working on the system problems as far as making sure the menu items listed on the kiosk match what we actually have,” she said.

More than 250 McDonald’s restaurants in Florida already offer both table service and digital kiosk ordering, with more than 600 expected to have both by the end of 2017.
