Two killed in Micanopy crash after driver tries to avoid traffic

A Crystal River, Florida, man attempting to drive around traffic Monday caused a fatal accident, killing himself and a Williston, Florida, woman, Florida Highway Patrol said.

At about 11 a.m., Calvin Lee Adams III, 29, headed north in a no-passing zone before attempting to drive around a line of cars by crossing into southbound traffic on Southwest Williston Road, according to an FHP press release.

Adams, driving a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder, then struck the front of 36-year-old Michelle M. Anderson’s 2001 Honda Accord, killing both of them at the scene, according to the release.

In photos of the wreckage, the front ends of both cars appear mangled, with Anderson’s car completely missing its windshield.

The accident occurred in Micanopy near the intersection of Southwest Williston Road and Southwest Wacahoota Road, according to the report.

Both Adams and Anderson were pronounced dead on scene by Alachua County Fire Rescue Services, according to the report.
