In July, a UF Health Shands Hospital nurse secretly filmed a patient urinating and touched the patient’s genitals, University Police said.

Paul Brophy, 31, was arrested Friday after police seized and searched Brophy’s phone, discovering the videos along with photos of the patient’s groin and buttocks area, only covered by his underwear, according to a police report.

Brophy was working in the emergency department while the patient was being treated for a hand injury, according to the report. The patient said he was unaware that Brophy had filmed him but did recall the nurse asking if he needed help urinating, which the patient refused.

The victim added Brophy had once covered him in a blanket and tried to stimulate him sexually by rubbing his genitals over the blanket, according to the report. He told Brophy to go away and rolled over to prevent any further touching.

Brophy was fired in October after allegedly attempting to perform oral sex on another patient, according to Alligator archives.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, Brophy is being held at the Alachua County Jail in lieu of a $1,050,000 bond.

Laura Castro, a UF Health spokeswoman, said UF Health is taking the allegations seriously and remains committed to providing patients with a safe environment to receive care.

“We are actively cooperating with the University Police Department in this investigation,” she said.
