An Alachua man broke into a home through a window Sunday and was found by the homeowner while he was laying in her bed, Alachua Police said.

Gerrel Onterio Richardson, 34, entered into a fenced yard and passed “no trespassing” signs at 13227 NW 151 Lane at about 3:15 a.m., according to an arrest report. He then came through a window in the home and laid on the bed.

A woman woke up and saw him laying in her bed, according to the report. When he realized she saw him, he fled on foot from the house and ran through woods, even after police told him to stop.

Police searched for him with a K9 unit, and a police dog tracked him to another home’s backyard, where he was hiding under a mattress, according to the report.

He refused to surrender to police and didn’t show his hands to officers when they told him to, according to the report. Richardson resisted arrest and refused to put his hands behind his back.

Police arrested Richardson on charges of burglary, trespassing and resisting arrest. Authorities took him to the Alachua County Jail, where he remains as of press time in lieu of a $85,000 bond.

Richardson is also facing another charge of driving with his license suspended.
