Lil Wayne, a five-time Grammy award-winning rapper, will perform at UF in April.

Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter Jr., will be at the O’Connell Center on April 4, said Student Government Productions chair Dillon Knox. Fliers were handed out announcing the upcoming show during Wednesday’s Big Sean and Lil Yachty concert, he said.

Knox said he wasn’t aware how much Wayne would be paid, and an official with the O’Connell Center couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. The center will be organizing the show as part of Lil Wayne’s 2017 “The Dedication” tour.

Ticket sales for the general public will begin Feb. 24 at noon, according to Ticketmaster’s website. Knox said ticket prices haven’t been announced.

“I don’t have an exact date yet, but I expect an announcement early next week,” he said.

Justin Cox, a UF biology junior, said he’s excited to attend the concert because Lil Wayne is his favorite rapper.

“I was introduced to him in middle school, and I’ve been listening to him ever since,” Cox said.

The 21-year-old said he created a Spotify playlist as soon as he found out about the concert to prepare for it. He plans to buy tickets as soon as they go on sale.

“I’m not worried about the price,” Cox said. “I’ll pay whatever it takes to get me through that door.”
