Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin likes the direction UF’s football and men’s basketball programs are heading toward.

So much so that on Friday he gave coaches Jim McElwain and Mike White raises and a one-year contract extension.

McElwain is 19-8 with the football team and has won back-to-back SEC East titles since coming to Gainesville two years ago. His new deal runs through 2022 and is worth $26.9 million, including a $200,000 raise.

McElwain will also collect a $400,000 bonus if Florida wins a national championship and can earn up to $100,000 annually if his players perform well academically.

White, on the other hand, is 48-24 through his first two seasons with the men’s basketball team and helped the Gators reach the Elite Eight earlier this year. He will earn an additional $600,000 with his new contract, which now ends in 2023 and is worth $16.3 million.

“Both Coach (McElwain) and Coach White have done a phenomenal job of leading our programs, and we are looking forward to having them lead the Gators for years to come,” Stricklin said. “As much as both have won games and provided a lot of great memories for our fans and stability for the programs they lead, they have both had a huge impact on the development and personal growth of the athletes they coach.”
