In the most competitive election cycle since Fall 2015, 50 Student Senate seats are up for grabs.
Voting for the upcoming Student Government elections is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Student Body will vote according to UF residence halls and off-campus zip codes.
Students can vote in various on-campus locations, including Broward Hall library; Jennings Hall first floor library; Marston Science Library, Main Room; Norman Hall Education Library, the Reitz Union computer lab and more.
Two SG parties registered this semester: Impact Party, which has 50 candidates on its ballot, and Inspire Party, which has 41 candidates on its ballot. Inspire released a 14-point platform Wednesday, while Impact released a 10-point platform Thursday. Two Independent candidates — Trevison Clark, who’s running for Murphree Area, and Adrian O’Sullivan, who’s running for Yulee Area — also registered.
Out of the 50 seats available, 43 are contested by at least two candidates. This is the first time SG elections have been this contested since Fall 2015, when Access Party and Impact Party went head-to-head over 47 seats, according to Alligator archives.
Inspire Party will hold a moderated public forum from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Pugh Hall Ocora. Inspire and the two independent senators will participate in the event. Impact Party will not participate because its schedule is busy after it was cramped by Hurricane Irma, said Kylie Werk, one of the campaign managers.
