Non-Spoiler Version: (4-5/10) Watch if you saw 2001: A Space Odyssey and thought, "This would be perfect if it had more biology." Starting at 10: -2 Plot holes and inconsistency (Don't come expecting explanations for the plot) -1 Stupid characters -3 Pseudoscience +1 Voice imprinting ~-1 Unrealistic relationship around main character (This wasn't as bad as the other flaws, but had enough issues to deserve a mention) Conclusion: Not irredeemable, but watch Black Panther instead.

Spoiler version: (4-5/10) Starting at 10: -2 Plot holes and inconsistency (The most egregious example of this was a twist ending that made no sense with respect to the rest of the climax.) -1 Stupid characters (Some of this can be explained away with *hand waving* the Shimmer, but I expect research scientists to be better than this.) -3 Pseudoscience (Radio waves don't work inside the Shimmer. The explanation of this, from an apparent physics major on the team, is that the Shimmer is "refracting" the radio waves. This is fine until she says that the Shimmer is also "refracting" DNA, and that's why DNA is getting randomly mixed up. Then she walks away and turns into a plant. I'm not making this up. The tropes felt tired and inaccurate.) +1 Voice imprinting (One of the team members gets killed by some sort of beast. Because of the DNA mixing, the beast gains the ability to scream like their team member, which makes for a really tense and interesting horror scene.) ~-1 Unrealistic relationship around main character (There was an affair thrown in that I guess makes sense with a military marriage? But it's not clear what it actually adds to the story, except for a gratuitous sex scene.)
