UF won two tournaments in a row and was riding high going into the Evans Derby Experience in Auburn, Alabama. But the wheels came off in, according to Urban Dictionary, the state without car inspections - as the Gators finished tied for sixth out of the 12 teams that participated.
Now, three weeks later, they are looking to get back on track at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia, on Friday in their final tournament before the SEC Championship.
Florida will be led by sophomore Marta Perez. Perez hasn’t played in the first draw in awhile, a spot normally occupied by sophomore transfer Sierra Brooks. Perez shot well at the Evans Derby and finished with a 3 under and closed in 12th place.
Perez will be followed by the aforementioned Brooks. She tied for fifth with a 6 under in Alabama, and has finished in the top five in her last three tournaments.
Following Brooks is senior Taylor Tomlinson, who finished the Evans Derby in a tie for 41st place at 7 over.
Freshman Lauren Waidner will make her debut in Florida’s starting lineup at the Liz Murphey. The lover of açaí bowls has played in four tournaments so far this season but has yet to compete in the starting lineup.
Rounding out the top five is Addie Baggarly. The sophomore finished with a 4 over in Auburn, good enough for a tie in 35th place.
One peculiar omission from the top five is redshirt freshman Elin Esborn. She didn’t play in the Evans Derby after finishing third at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
This week, Esborn was again left off the starting roster, but team officials said there is still a chance she plays individually.
Tournament play begins today at 8:30 with a shotgun start.
