Senior Stanley Wu helped lead the UF men to victory over FSU in its home pool with individual victories in 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.

Florida's swimming and diving teams battled through some rainy weather in Tallahassee to sweep the Florida State Seminoles in the Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown at Marcom Aquatics Center on Friday.

The third-ranked men's team for Florida outlasted the No. 21 Seminoles (1-4) 170-128 to pick up its fifth win of the season, improving to 5-1, overall.

“It was a tremendous opportunity for the men to ‘test the waters’ per se and swim in events that are not necessarily their ‘best’ events," UF men’s coach Anthony Nesty said.

The Gators were led by senior Stanley Wu and sophomore Erge Gezmis as they both added two first-place finishes to their lists of accomplishments this season.

Wu ruled the pool in the breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breast with a season-best swim of 54.92, while bringing home gold in the 200-yard breast with an impressive 2:01.03 finish.

Wu's teammate, Gezmis, showed off his talents by winning the 200-yard butterfly event with a personal-best time for him this season (1:48.92). His second individual victory came later in the meet when he claimed the top spot in the 500-yard free with a 4:30.33. Freshman Robert Finke closed in at 4:30.42, good for second place.

Sophomore Santiago Corredor, a versatile swimmer from Cape Coral, Florida, had a fantastic meet himself. Corredor won the 200-yard individual medley with the 17th-fastest time in the NCAA (1:49.16).

Freshman Nick Lydon led the UF men in diving, managing a third-place finish in the 3-meter event behind a career-high score of 326.40 points.

The No. 10 UF women's team were not to be outdone by the men, securing its seventh victory on the year and its sixth straight over FSU. The Gators handled the 21st-ranked Noles (4-1) 177.5-122.5.

“FSU has been strong this fall so we knew that we would get their best, especially in their home pool,” women’s coach Jeff Poppell said. “I thought our women did a fantastic job racing outdoors today, in overcast and chilly conditions in Tallahassee.”

Freshman Mabel Zavaros is sure to get consideration for freshman of the week honors after three individual wins on Friday. She brought home the 200-yard free event with the 18th-fastest time in the country (1:48.28). The freshman would go on to claim the top of the leaderboard in the 200-yard back (1:56.85) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.96).

Junior Sherridon Dressel and senior Hannah Burns also contributed to the victory over FSU with two individual-event wins apiece.

The Lake City, Florida, native, Hannah Burns, won the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.6) on Friday, as well as the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.65). Both times were season-bests for her.

Junior Brooke Madden spearheaded the diving efforts and won the 1-meter event (311.32) and took bronze in the 3-meter behind a score of 310.58.

Freshman Elisabeth Perez finished in fourth (275.40) in the 1-meter.

"I am really happy with our progress,” diving coach Bryan Gillooly said. “Every meet has ups and downs, but overall this team is getting better each week."
