Introducing the spring alligatorSports staff

We’re now a whole month into the spring semester, so now is as good a time as any to introduce the wonderful team of writers who have been -- and will continue -- giving you your coverage of Gators sports.

On the men’s basketball beat, covering a seesaw season for the preseason No. 6 Gators and enduring the backlash that inevitably comes with live Tweeting a Mike White press conference, are Assistant Sports Editor Evan Lepak, Online Sports Editor Brendan Farrell and Joseph Salvador.

Covering the women’s basketball team and its bounce-back from last year’s eight-win campaign are staff writers Bryan Matamoros and Graham Marsh. Follow Bryan and Graham to stay up to date on Lavender Briggs’ scorching freshman year.

This season is the baseball team’s final year playing in Alfred A. McKethan Stadium. Florida is widely expected to rebound from last year’s blip on an otherwise historical resume for coach Kevin O’Sullivan. Dylan O’Shea will be joined by Bryan and Joseph covering the Gators on the baseball diamond. Follow their coverage when the season begins on Valentine’s Day in a few weeks.

UF softball begins the post-Kelly Barnhill era Friday in Tampa, and Payton Titus and Graham are on the beat. Despite the turnover the team saw in the offseason, the Gators were pegged a top-10 team by three of the four major ranking services. Payton and Graham will keep you posted on all things Florida softball through the summer.

Noah Ram is your guy for Florida gymnastics and its pursuit of an elusive national title. The Gators are off to an undefeated start, are the No. 2 team in the nation and have an impressive slate of wins already.

The UF lacrosse team was picked to finish first in the American Athletic Conference following last season’s NCAA Championships appearance. Christian Ortega is on the lacrosse beat, and the season begins Saturday at home for the Gators.

Ainslie Lee is your go-to for all things Florida swimming and diving for both the men’s and women’s teams. The regular season concluded this past weekend and the Gators have the SEC Championships to look forward to later in the month.

Your resident Florida men’s tennis beat writer is Zachary Huber. He will be covering the No. 2 Gators, who are already off to a 7-1 start.

Also giving you updates from the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex is Myles Herbert, who is covering the No. 21 women’s team. Follow Myles for coverage of the Gators’ pursuits on the court.

The men’s golf team begins spring play today in Jacksonville and the women’s team gets going this weekend in California. Christian Berry will be covering both teams on the green.

Declan Walsh is on the track and field beat, providing you with coverage of the men’s and women’s teams for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

And finally, me and former alligatorSports Editor Tyler Nettuno will be filling in with features and some men’s basketball, baseball and spring football coverage.

That does it for our staff introductions. Make sure to follow all of our writers on Twitter, follow us on Twitter @alligatorSports and read up on the latest Gators news in print every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
