Three-year-old struck and killed by a truck in Gainesville

The Gainesville Police Department is investigating the incident as a traffic homicide

A 3-year-old died after he was hit by a truck Wednesday evening. The boy was hit while riding a toy scooter near 4100 NE 15th St. in Northeast Gainesville.

Following the crash, the toddler was rushed to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition, according to a Gainesville Police Department press release. He died as a result of his injuries shortly after arriving there.

Two Alachua County Sheriff's Office deputies who arrived at the scene performed CPR and lifesaving efforts on the boy, according to the release. When Gainesville Fire Rescue arrived, they took over and rushed him to the hospital. 

As of Thursday evening, GPD is investigating the incident as a traffic homicide and has yet to make any arrests. 

GPD spokesperson Graham Glover said no more information is available as of Thursday evening, including details about the driver, vehicle involved or the child’s identity.
