Florida’s Monday woes bled over into Tuesday, and it’s now 43-over-par with just Wednesday remaining in the Gamecock Intercollegiate.
Due to inclement weather, the tournament shifted to a shotgun start Tuesday morning. Teams played throughout the day and attempted to get in as much golf as possible before the weather moved in.
The Gators’ round one struggles persisted and didn’t improve in round two. Freshman Maisie Filler led the way and completed 39 of her 54 holes. She ties for 28th overall and sits at 4-over-par.
Junior Jenny Kim followed and shot 3-over par in the second round. She’s currently 2-over-par through 10 holes of the final round. Kim is 8-over-par overall and tied for 52nd individually.
Sophomore Marina Escobar entered the week as the No. 1 golfer for Florida but currently sits third on the team in scoring. She shot a 6-over-par 78 in the second round and remains 4-over-par through 11 holes in the final round. Escobar is currently 14-over-par and is tied for 81st individually.
Redshirt senior Elin Esborn is tied for 94th at 24-over-par. She ended the third round 5-over-par through 11 holes. Junior Clara Manzalini is 12-over par through 11 holes in the third round. She rests in 96th place at 25-over-par.
Florida suffered from the absence of its top two golfers: senior Addie Baggarly and sophomore Annabell Fuller. The Gators averaged the worst score on par-3s (3.43) and the second worst on par-4s (4.37) and par-5s (5.06). They only hold 16 birdies through the two days of competition, three less than the next-worst team Texas A&M.
The course played tougher Tuesday than Monday. The average score leveled at 75.29, nearly a full stroke higher than round one’s average of 74.49.
The Gators will look to end the tournament on a high note Wednesday as they finish out the final round of play. Play is scheduled to resume through a shotgun-style start at 11:30 a.m. Live updates can be found at Golfstat.com.
