Santa Fe College COVID-19 update: Seven positive cases were reported last week

The college’s total number of reported positive cases is now 769

Santa Fe College reported seven positive COVID-19 cases between June 21 and Monday. Four were student cases, and three were employee cases.

From March 2020 to Monday, the college has reported a total of 769 positive cases, 92% of which were student cases, according to a report provided by Jay Anderson, the college’s communications manager.

Last week, the college opened 13 files, or case investigations, and reported two students and three employees may have been on-site while positive, according to the report. The report stated that positive cases on-site are based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidelines regarding COVID-19 testing and the onset of symptoms.

Since March 2020, 30.95% of the college’s 2,485 opened files reported a positive COVID-19 test.

Santa Fe College recently created a reference tool for Summer and Fall preparation and has updated its COVID-19 information website page based on Summer B semester changes, according to the report. The page states that after a report is received, trained human resources personnel or professional Florida Department of Health contact tracers will follow up with the reported person and inform him or her of the next steps.

As of Monday, masks are optional indoors and outdoors, according to a press release.

The college held a vaccination clinic on the college’s northwest campus Tuesday. At the event, a total of 16 people received their first dose of the vaccine, while one person got his or her second dose, wrote Alex Rohlwing, a government operations consultant in region three of the Florida Department of Health. The college invites anyone who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to return July 20 to receive a second dose, according to the release.
