Santa Fe College COVID-19 Update: 34 positive cases reported in the last week

The college’s new vaccine incentive program will give $60 to all students and employees who have received two Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one Johnson & Johnson vaccine

Santa Fe College reported 34 positive COVID-19 cases from Sept. 14 to Sept. 20. Two employees and 32 students reported testing positive.

Five new cases were reported since last week, all coming from students —  an increase of about 17%.

Since March 2020, the total number of positive cases from students is now 935, and the total number of positive cases from employees is 93, according to a report from SF director of human resources Lela Frye.

The college opened 111 student case investigations and eight employee case investigations, bringing the total number of opened case investigations to 3,402 since March 2020.

Two employees and 10 students may have been on campus while positive, according to the report, but there have been no additional exposures or community spread from on-campus positive cases.

The college requests that all students, faculty and staff perform a daily self-assessment checklist before going to campus. Masks are not required on campus, but the college strongly encourages anyone visiting any SF property to wear a mask indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.

The college also requires students who test positive for COVID-19, experience any COVID-19 symptoms, or believe they have come in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 to fill out a confidential online form, disclosing any potential exposure or positive test results.

On Sept. 15, Santa Fe College launched a new vaccine incentive program. All employees, including full-time and part-time, along with all current students who have received either both shots of the Pfizer, the Moderna vaccine, or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, by Oct. 31 will receive $60.

Students can verify their vaccination by using a Zoom room or an in-person location to be announced during the week of Nov. 1 to Nov. 5 and will receive the money through their payment method set up on eSantaFe.

Employees who are vaccinated must arrange an appointment with human resources to verify their vaccination status, and they will receive the $60 incentive in their Nov. 30 payroll.
