Santa Fe College COVID-19 Update: 28 positive cases reported in the last week

The college’s total number of reported positive cases since March 2020 is now 1,056

Santa Fe College reported 28 positive COVID-19 cases from Sept. 21 to Sept. 27. There were no positive cases from employees.

Six fewer cases were reported than last week —  a decrease of about 26%.

The total number of positive student cases since March 2020 is now 963, according to Santa Fe director of human resources Lela Frye.

The college opened 110 student case investigations and seven employee case investigations, bringing the total number of opened case investigations to 3,520.

Seven students, but no employees, may have been on campus while positive, according to the report. There have been no additional exposures or community spread from on-campus positive cases this week.

The college requests all students, faculty and staff perform a daily self-assessment checklist before going to campus. Masks are not required on campus, but the college strongly encourages anyone visiting Santa Fe property to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

The college also requires students who test positive for COVID-19, experience any symptoms, or believe they have come in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 to fill out a confidential online form, disclosing any potential exposure or positive test results.

Santa Fe launched a new vaccine incentive program Sept. 15. All employees, including full-time and part-time, along with all current students who have received either both shots of the Pfizer, the Moderna vaccine, or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, by Oct. 31 will receive $60.

During yesterday’s College Senate Executive Council meeting, President Paul Broadie II announced 380 faculty and staff have taken advantage of the vaccine incentive.

Students can verify their vaccination through Zoom or at an in-person location to be announced during the week of Nov. 1 to Nov. 5 and will receive the money through their payment method set up on eSantaFe.

Employees who are vaccinated must arrange an appointment with human resources to verify their vaccination status, and they will receive the $60 incentive in their Nov. 30 payroll.
