Todd Golden continues his restructuring of the Florida men’s basketball program with the acquisition of another huge transfer.

Graduate guard Kyle Lofton committed and signed with UF Friday. The former guard for the St. Bonaventure Bonnies will provide the Gators with elite ball-handling and facilitating after their recent losses of players at the position, including former Gators Tyree Appleby and Brandon McKissic.

Lofton, a four-year veteran, was a starter at St. Bonaventure during the 2021-2022 season, where he averaged 12.8 points a game on 40.2% shooting from the field and 5.9 assists per game.

His assist total marks the 10th best in the NCAA last year, according to ESPN. He was awarded this past year with an Atlantic 10 third team all-conference nomination, a first for him after selections for the first team all-conference from 2019-2021.

The Hillsdale, New Jersey, native started 116 games with the Bonnies, averaging 38.1 minutes a game with the program. Lofton will compete to continue his consistency as a starter as he becomes the third guard on the roster with fellow transfer sophomore Trey Bonham and signee Denzel Aberdeen. His experience and skill will contribute to this team; it’s one of the reasons coach Golden wanted him to commit to Florida.

“We are excited to bring Kyle into our program here in Florida,” Golden said. “Kyle has experienced a lot of success both from a team and individual standpoint during his time at St. Bonaventure.”

The move adds to what has been an impressive first few months of recruiting for Golden during his short time with the university.
