Santa Fe College canceled classes starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. President Paul Broadie released the alert at 10:09 a.m. Tuesday in an online alert.

All classes starting at 4 p.m. or later are canceled. Classes that are already in progress will be allowed to continue, all ending by 5 p.m.

The college expects to reopen for normal operations Oct. 3, the alert said.

Prior to SFC, UF announced Monday night that all classes would be canceled Wednesday through Friday.

More information about building closures and plans to secure campus are forthcoming, the college wrote in its alert.

The Alachua County Commission has declared a local state of emergency ahead of Hurricane Ian’s arrival. As of Tuesday, a tropical storm watch has been issued for most of Northeast and North Central Florida including  Alachua County. Tropical storm-force winds are possible in the county within the next 48 hours.
