Florida women’s tennis announced the addition of Qavia Lopez Wednesday. Lopez is the top-ranked recruit in the class of 2023.
The five-star prospect hails from Delray Beach, Florida, and is ranked as the No.1 recruit in the nation by Babola. In addition, Lopez earned blue-chip honors and a career high International Tennis Federation junior rank of No. 19.
Lopez boasts an impressive singles resume, with match victories in the opening round of the 2022 Wimbledon Junior Championship and the Australian Open.
Throughout 2022, she has continued to make strong impressions with semi-final appearances in the J1 Nottingham, JB1 Indian Wells and JA Criciuma tournaments.
Lopez will also add depth to the Gators’ doubles lineup. She’s earned doubles titles in the JB1 Indian Wells, JB1 Nicholasville, JB1 San Diego and J3 Lousada tournaments.
Thorqvist praised Lopez’s talent and mentality.
“Not only is she perhaps the most talented player in the country in her class, but she possesses the work ethic and mentality we need in order to compete for championships again,” Thornqvist said.
