Florida guard KK Deans stands on the court during the Gators' 61-54 win over the Texas A&M Aggies Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023.

Florida senior guard KK Deans announced on Instagram Thursday that she will be entering the transfer portal after one season with the Gators.

“I’ve gained some lifelong friends on this journey and that is priceless,” Deans said in the statement. “Though my path is taking me in another direction, I will cherish the memories that I’ve made this season.”

Deans arrived in Gainesville ahead of the 2022-2023 season after three years with the West Virginia Mountaineers. The senior guard transferred to Florida after earning All-Big 12 honorable mention honors in consecutive seasons.

In her lone season at UF, Deans led the Gators with 14.1 points per game and 3.7 assists per game.

Deans struggled with consistency at times during her brief Florida career but posted several highlight moments. The senior dropped a season-high 30 points in a close loss to the Louisiana State Tigers, and she posted a double-double with 13 points and a season-high 10 assists against Wake Forest in the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

The Gators will look to rely on young talent in the backcourt without Deans next season. Sophomore Alberte Rimdal doubled her scoring in her second season, and freshman Myka Perry showed flashes. Five-star guard Laila Reynolds will also join the team next year.
