Gators junior offensive guard Micah Mazzccua will miss an undisclosed period of time after he received surgery for an injury uncovered after an MRI.

Mazzccua transferred to Florida from the Baylor Bears after three seasons in Waco, Texas. UF head coach Billy Napier confirmed the injury Tuesday after the guard didn’t participate in consecutive Spring practices.

“This is going to set him back,” Napier said. “He had surgery just a few days ago, and he will be in return to play protocol.”

The Baylor transfer started 10 games for the Bears in 2022. Mazzccua graded as the second-best offensive guard in the Big 12, according to Pro Football Focus

Napier hopes Mazzccua can return to Fall camp before the season starts, he said. He emphasized the importance of being there for him while he rehabs from his injury.

“We’re going to help him and support him through his rehab and all the things that come with an injury these days,” Napier said.

Mazzccua announced in a now-deleted Tweet Thursday he would re-enter the transfer portal. However, he took the Tweet down Friday morning and will reportedly stay with the team.

Napier did not directly comment on the incident and offered his support for Mazzccua.
