Seton Hall senior transfer forward Tyrese Samuel announced his commitment to the Florida Gators on Twitter for the 2023-2024 season.

The 6-foot-10-inch Canadian big man chose Florida over Wake Forest — his two desired destinations to transfer.

UF recruited Samuel early when he first entered the transfer portal March 30. This included an in-home visit by the Gators in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada April 9. Samuel’s official visit with Florida was April 15.

Samuel averaged 11 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season for the Pirates. He also recorded six double-doubles — including a 16 points, and 14 rebounds performance against the Lincoln Lions Dec. 7.

He shot a career-high 55% from the floor in the 2022-2023 season and recorded 51 blocks through the past two seasons at Seton Hall.

Samuel will join UF’s big man group of freshman forward Aleks Szymczyk, freshman transfer forward Micah Handlogten, graduate transfer forward EJ Jarvis, and incoming freshman forwards Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh for next year.

The 2022 Big East All-Academic Team member is the fourth addition from the transfer portal for Florida this offseason.
