A man was killed in a downtown Gainesville shooting Saturday morning, according to a press release from the Gainesville Police Department.

GPD was patrolling the downtown area on foot when officers heard gunshots at 1:07 a.m. Officers arrived at 100 South Main St. to a victim suffering from a fatal gunshot, according to the press release.

The victim was transported to Shands Hospital and pronounced deceased. 

GPD discovered a crime scene at the west side of the Alachua County Tax Collector’s Office. A preliminary investigation showed that a physical confrontation between the victim and others occurred that led to gunfire. The suspect fled and has not been located. 

Officers are still investigating the incident. As of Saturday evening, GPD has not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting.
