Adam Steinberg will be the eleventh UF men’s tennis head coach in program history.

Former Michigan men’s tennis coach Adam Steinberg was named the Florida men’s tennis head coach Friday afternoon. His arrival comes after former UF coach Bryan Shelton resigned June 2.

Steinberg held an 582-287 overall record in his 32 seasons as head coach for four Division I programs. He has 21 NCAA tournament appearances with four quarterfinal spots.

“We are thrilled to welcome Adam and his family to Gator Nation,” athletic director Scott Stricklin said.

The coach spent the past nine seasons at the University of Michigan and accumulated a 172-64 record. Steinberg guided Michigan to its first-ever back-to-back NCAA championships quarterfinals appearances.

The Wolverines ended their 2023 season with a 25-4 record. It marked the third-most wins in program history. Steinberg guided the team to a 13-match win streak and a perfect 16-0 record at home.

He was awarded 2021 Big Ten Coach of the Year and 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Coach of the Year.

“Adam is a proven winner and his track record speaks for itself,” Stricklin said. “His ability to recruit, develop and compete for championships will position our men’s tennis program for success for years to come.”

Steinberg’s championship resume includes 12 conference tournament championships and three-regular conference titles.

“It’s a privilege to be the new leader of the Florida men’s tennis program,” Steinberg said.

In 2006, he led the Pepperdine Waves to win their first NCAA Championship and was named the ITA Coach of the Year.

“The University of Florida is rich with tradition and is the ultimate combination of academics and athletics,” he said. “I’m beyond thrilled to get started in the Orange & Blue and continuing the Gators excellence on and off the court.”
