The Florida Gators still managed a victory during their bye week with a big win on the recruiting trail after landing five-star defensive lineman LJ McCray Saturday.

McCray is the third five-star recruit to join Florida’s 2024 recruiting class — joining quarterback DJ Lagway and safety Xavier Filsaime. Although McCray is listed as a four-star in the 247Sports composite, he is ranked as a top 25 on 247Sports, On3 and ESPN.

The 6-foot-6-inch, 260-pound defensive lineman ranks as the No. 1 defensive lineman on On3 and the No. 2 lineman on 247Sports. He ranks in the top ten nationally amongst all positions in the class of 2024.

McCray is the highest-rated defensive line commit for Florida since Gervon Dexter in 2020.

The Daytona Beach, Florida, native chose the Gators over Florida State, Georgia, Auburn and Miami.

McCray bolsters head coach Billy Napier’s star-studded recruiting class that ranks No. 3 in the country behind only Ohio State and Georgia. He joins a loaded defensive line class that features Amaris Williams and Nasir Johnson, both top 100 players on 247.
