Florida gymnastics edges out Georgia in Athens in tight SEC Win

Anya Pilgrim, Leanne Wong, Ellie Lazzari and Sloane Blakely all earned event-specific awards in the win

The Florida gymnastics team (5-1, 2-1 SEC) defeated the Georgia Bulldogs (1-4, 0-4 SEC) 197.425-197.300 in their second road meet of 2024.

 Florida kicked off the first rotation on the uneven bars and Georgia started on vault. Georgia freshman Lily Smith scored the highest on the uneven bars as she earned a 9.950. UF senior Ellie Lazzari tied with two Georgia gymnasts for second, where they each earned a score of 9.900.   

The Gators dominated the vault apparatus as freshman Anya Pilgrim and junior Leanne Wong breezed through their routines and tied for first, each scoring 9.825. Florida junior Sloane Blakely and freshman Danie Ferris tied with three Bulldogs in fourth with a score of 9.850. 

Lazzari excelled in her routine on the beam, and her performance tied with Blakely for first with a score of 9.925. Lazzari continued her streak of stellar beam performances. 

The Gators shined in the floor apparatus with senior Victoria Nguyen and junior Morgan Hurd locked in at second. Both gymnasts dazzled in their routines, both earning a 9.900. Pilgrim also had a stand-out routine, landing her in fifth place with a 9.850. 

The Gators competed in two all-around apparatus in junior Sloane Blakely and freshman Anya Pilgrim. Blakely had a solid night, as she scored a 39.175 overall. Pilgrim also had a successful performance, finishing with a 39.500 overall, just shy of her season-best. 

Next, the Gators face the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center Feb. 9. The meet will be streamed on SEC Network.
