Gainesville man arrested for armed bank robbery

Almost $1,500 stolen from Wells Fargo on Archer Road

Patrick Johnson, 50, was arrested on charges of robbing $1,448 from the Wells Fargo bank located on Archer Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses reported that Johnson, wearing a hospital gown, entered the bank and handed two of the tellers notes ordering them to hand over money, as this was a robbery, according to the arrest report.

One of the tellers said Johnson told them he would “blow a hole in your head” if they didn’t comply, according to the arrest report. No weapon was found on Johnson or in his car after his arrest, the report noted.

After receiving the money, Johnson fled the scene in a red Hyundai Accent.

Gainesville police followed Johnson along Archer Road using a tracker device attached to the money.

Johnson was arrested at 4:23 p.m. without incident, according to the arrest report and GPD spokesperson Art Forgey.

About $1,258 was recovered.

After his arrest, Johnson admitted to passing the notes to the tellers with the “intent to rob the bank” and verbally threatening one of them.

Johnson was admitted to a Gainesville hospital, where he remains in custody.
