From horn choirs to shoegaze concerts, every music lover can find an event to enjoy in town this week. Check out a roundup of some of the concerts and music events happening in Gainesville.

Tuesday, Oct. 14

The Atlantic: Action Research #246 at 8:30 p.m.

New York band Compactor is joined by Gainesville locals Ironing, Deterritory, Waking Woodcuts, Cat Battle and Frog in this experimental underground show. 

MUB 101: Piano Ensemble Recital No. 1 at 5:10 p.m.

The UF piano studio showcases its talents, performing selections from Grieg and Poulenc. 

MUB 101: Jazz Band 2 Concert No. 1 at 7:20 p.m.

This UF jazz band performs its first concert of the season. 

Baby J’s: Standard Tuesdays – The Jake Newcomb Trio at 7 p.m.

This Gainesville band will perform at the downtown jazz lounge.

Wednesday, Oct. 15

The Wooly: The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 8 p.m.

The annual fall run of the show features a live shadowcast from local actors to accompany the cult-classic movie. 

Baby J’s: Chery at 7 p.m.

This singer-songwriter from Haiti will perform at the jazz cocktail bar.

Thursday, Oct. 16

MUB 101: Alex Pershounin at 5:10 p.m.

Double bassist Alex Pershounin showcases his talents at this UF faculty rehearsal. 

University Auditorium: UF Concert Choir and Chamber Singers Concert at 7:20 p.m.

The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers present their annual Homecoming Concert. 

The Wooly: Julie with Sword II at 8 p.m. 

Three-piece LA noise rock band Julie is joined by experimental indie-rock band Sword II for their only north central Florida show. 

Depot Village: Mighty Mystic with Zaydoc Dachiefroc and Gras at 6 p.m.

Reggae artist Mighty Mystic brings the “Walk Tall” U.S tour to Gainesville, presented by THCafe.

Loosey’s: Shock Tea, The Palmettos and Persons Unknown at 8 p.m.

This weekly free indie concert welcomes Atlanta sitar indie-rock band Shock Tea with Gainesville indie band The Palmettos and Gainesville psych-rock band Persons Unknown. 

Baby J’s: Rustler with Spirit Tramp at 8 p.m.

Rustler is joined by American folk act Spirit Tramp.

Friday, Oct. 17

Baby J’s: Patti and the Gypsy Jazz Gents at 8 p.m.

This jazz band will play a variety of classics.

Heartwood Soundstage: Arts Fishing Club with Thomas Allain Band at 7 p.m.

Nashville indie-folk band Arts Fishing Club comes to Gainesville with the support of Gainesville local Thomas Allain Band. 

Cypress and Grove Brewery: Jose Pineiro Trio at 6 p.m.

This jazz sax trio will perform at this Gainesville craft brewery. 

Civic Media Center: June Henry, The Last Arizona and Quil Darling at 7 p.m.

Folk-punk artists June Henry, The Last Arizona and Quil Darling will play at the Civic Media Center.

Loosey’s: Rockhill, Matt Woods & The Natural Disasters and American Dream Survivors at 8 p.m.

Second night of celebration for Loosey’s 15th anniversary. 

The Wooly: BABE HAVEN, i.liedtomyself and Makeup Remover at 8 p.m.

Queer-punk band BABE HAVEN headlines, joined by shoegaze act i.liedtomyself and “queercore” band Makeup Remover. 

Saturday, Oct. 18 

Heartwood Soundstage: The Runarounds with William Wild at 8 p.m.

The Runarounds continue on “The Minivan Tour” in promotion of their recently released Amazon Prime original show about their lives. 

The Atlantic: Kaupe, Tariffs, Bad Dog and Gnomes of Neptune at 8 p.m.

Heavy metal bands gather for a show at this downtown nightclub. 

Loosey’s: Blacksnake, Whiskey & Co. and Have Gun, Will Travel at 8 p.m.

These groups will perform at the third night of Loosey’s 15th anniversary celebration. 

Sunday, Oct. 19

MUB 101: Gator Horn Choir at 3 p.m.

The Gator Horn Choir plays a wide selection of pieces, from Wicked’s “Defying Gravity” to the world premiere of “All Those Subliminal Meanings” and “I Think Roses are Beautiful,” both composed by UF students.  

MUB 101: Spectrum 101 Faculty Concert "Fable & Folly" at 7:20 p.m.

This faculty concert will offer a wide variety of performances, exploring the themes of ambition, greed, and hubris.

Heartwood Soundstage: BobFest at 5 p.m.

This concert will celebrate the music of Bob McPeek, a co-founder of Heartwood Soundstage. 

The Bull: Alex Willow with Trustfall and Adam Henry at 7 p.m.

Gainesville singer-songwriter Alex Willow performs at the Listening Room in promotion of his new EP coming out Friday.

Loosey’s: Michael Claytor, Kyle Keller, Danny Hughes and Marshall Patrick at 8 p.m.

Fourth night of celebration for Loosey’s 15th anniversary.
