Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Keith Perry to the State University System’s Board of Governors on Tuesday. DeSantis’ appointment is still subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Perry is the president and owner of Perry Roofing Contractors in Gainesville and a former member of the Florida Senate from 2016 to 2024, representing the 8th and 9th districts. He was also a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016, representing the 21st and 22nd districts.
In a press release from the governor’s office Tuesday, Perry was announced as one of six people appointed to the Board of Governors, four of whom, including Perry, were new.
The board is responsible for overseeing more than 400,000 students across Florida’s 12 public universities.
Perry is also a member of the Alachua County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and previously served as the president of the Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County.
Perry was also the previous president and owner of House of Hope, founded in 1996, a Christian nonprofit organization in Gainesville that aims to help those released from prison and recovered from addiction reintegrate into society.
Others newly appointed to the Board of Governors are Ashley Lukis, Michael Okaty and Nick Sinatra. Ashley Bell Barnett and Charles Lydecker were reappointed as well.
