Why Alex Condon’s performance is key to the Gators’ success

This year, when Condon has scored 15 or more points, the Gators have gone 8-0

Alex Condon may serve as the blueprint for a Gators basketball victory.

An essential member of the 2025 National Championship team, Condon is one of Florida’s biggest assets.

The junior forward averages 13.8 points per game, a higher average than both his freshman (7.7) and sophomore (10.6) years.

Compared to his teammates this season, he leads the team in blocks per game (1.5) and ranks second on the team in minutes, points, rebounds and assists per game.

This year, when Condon has scored 15 or more points, the Gators have gone 8-0. Almost 78% of the time Condon has scored in the double digits, Florida won.

However, when Condon has been off, so have the Gators.. When he has scored below 10 points, the team has gone 1-2, a 33% win rate.

Most notably, Condon had a 1-point outing against Auburn on Jan. 24 where Florida lost 76-67. While Condon was far from the only factor in the loss, it points to the importance of his performance in securing a victory.

Analytically, Condon has been staggeringly consistent over the past two seasons. In both 2025 and through the better portion of 2026, he has had a 3.4 PORPAGATU! (Points Over Replacement Per Adjusted Game At That Usage). The stat tracks how effective a player is in creating points over a hypothetical replacement player.

According to EvanMiya, Condon has been Florida’s second most valuable player and the 39th most valuable player this season with an 8.08 BPR (Bayesian Performance Rating), a stat that measures the overall offensive and defensive output of a player.

The only Gator Condon ranks behind in BPR is Thomas Haugh, who forms a formidable wing duo with the Aussie.

But that duo’s effectiveness is nothing new. In 2024-25, UF posted a +33.1 net rating when Condon and Haugh were on the floor together, which ranked in the 99th percentile, per CBS.

Following the most recent games for the Gators against South Carolina and Alabama, Condon was awarded co-SEC Player of the Week on Feb. 2.

Against Alabama, he became the first SEC player this century to have two steals, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots without a turnover in a game.

In a face-off against his co-SEC Player of the Week Rashaun Agee, the Gators will count on Condon’s hot streak to continue.

Florida faces off against Texas A&M on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. in College Station, Texas.
