Gainesville Police Department officers investigate a pedestrian crash by Buckman Hall on campus on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026 in Gainesville, Fla.

Update: Adi Syama, a Hare Krishna member, confirmed the box truck involved in the crash belongs to the organization but didn’t provide the name of the driver. Krishna canceled its regular lunch on campus following the incident, citing "unforeseen circumstances” in an Instagram story.

“Everybody's really shaken. They feel extremely bad about what happened,” Syama said. “We just pray for the welfare of the student, and from our understanding, it was no one's fault, just an accident.”

Gainesville Police responded to a crash on campus just after 10:30 a.m. Monday. Part of Buckman Drive by Buckman Hall was briefly blocked by law enforcement following the incident.

The crash reportedly involved a female pedestrian and a box truck, according to Art Forgey, the GPD public information officer. The pedestrian is estimated to be between 19 and 20 years old and was transported to the hospital for life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses on the scene said the pedestrian was stepping onto the sidewalk by a crosswalk when she was hit by the box truck.

The victim was gone from the scene by 11:30 a.m. as GPD officers investigated the incident, marking a puddle of blood with white paint. A single shoe and a roll of paper towels sat by the curb.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
