The University Police Department sent two emails to students Monday regarding multiple hoax threats.
In the initial email, sent at 11:10 a.m., UPD reported several departments received emails threatening safety on campus. At 3:47 p.m., a follow-up email reported continued threats in the form of emails and calls.
The College of Nursing and the College of Health and Human Performances were among those that received threats, according to UF spokesperson Cynthia Roldán. The threats are still under active investigation, Roldán said, but the university has no further comment on them at this time.
The threats expanded beyond UF’s Gainesville campus to include UF Health Jacksonville, the latter email stated.
UPD confirmed similar false threats were made last Friday evening. The threats are confirmed to be hoaxes, but campus police are continuing to monitor for any suspicious activity.
“Higher-education institutions across the nation are often the target of hoax threats, including UF,” the second email said. “Despite the pervasiveness of these hoax threats, UFPD takes all reports seriously and asks the campus community to do the same.”
While UPD confirmed multiple threats were made, the type of threats were not disclosed in the student emails. Campus police encouraged UF community members to report anything suspicious.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
