UF’s winning streak of four came to an end after a second round collapse.

Florida hovered around third to fifth place throughout the entire Southern Highlands Collegiate. The Gators faced eight other ranked teams, but struggled immensely in the second round, leading to a loss for Florida and ending its winning streak at four. Ultimately, the Gators ended the tournament 18 strokes behind No. 1 Virginia and 17 strokes behind No. 2 Auburn.

The Florida lineup consisted of Matthew Kress, Jack Turner, Zach Swanwick, Parker Sands and Noah Kent. Meanwhile, Trevor Gutschewski participated in individual play.

Despite playing against elite competition, the Florida squad managed an impressive Round 1 that gave a glimmer of hope it could win the tournament after tying for third with Washington, sporting a -5.

Coming off a career-best Round 2 in the Gators Invitational, Turner went 4-under-par, accumulating six birdies. Despite the impressive opening round, he was two strokes behind Virginia’s Paul Chang, who helped the Cavaliers to a whopping -11 score in Round 1.

But Round 2 proved to be a tough challenge for the Gators. Turner was the only starter who finished under par. Even with a career-best Gators Invitational, Kent struggled immensely, going 9-over-par and ending the day with four double bogeys.

However, the Gators rebounded in the final stage of play. Kent bounced back from a woeful Round 2 with an even score and three birdies.

Swanwick led the way for the Gators with a 217 (+1). The sophomore had a rough Round 2, accumulating six single bogeys, but he was the team’s best performer in Round 3, with a score of -2.

Kress also improved as the tournament progressed. The senior had a combined six single bogeys after the first two rounds and a combined score of 3-over-par. In Round 3, he was 1-under-par, including four birdies.

Turner ended with a 219 (+3). After a promising Round 1 and a solid Round 2, he fell into bogey trouble in the final round. The junior accumulated four single bogeys and three double bogeys, finishing Round 3 with a team-worst 8-over-par.

After going 2-under-par in the opening round, Sands scored a combined +7 throughout the last two rounds. The sophomore hit four double bogeys in that frame.

After being the best individual performer in the Gators Invitational, Gutchewski initially struggled to continue his momentum. In Round 1, he hit six single bogeys with a score of +4. Round 2 proved to be the freshman’s career best, where he scored eight birdies, ending with a -5. He was tied with three other golfers in first place that round, marking an impressive bounceback. A triple bogey in Hole 11 threw him off his game, and he ended the tournament with a 218 (+2).
