An executive member of Pi Kappa Alpha was arrested early Sunday morning at the fraternity’s house on University Avenue.
Matt Zdanowicz, a 22-year-old UF business administration senior, reportedly hosted an open-house party and served alcohol to underaged guests, according to a Gainesville Police Department arrest report.
The party is an annual event hosted by the fraternity, commonly known as “Pike Hawaiian.”
A GPD officer responded to a noise complaint at Pi Kappa Alpha around 3:30 a.m. and observed several people entering and leaving the fraternity.
According to the report, many people “had alcoholic beverages in hand and looked underage.”
After entering the fraternity, the officer reported about 100 people drinking, and bartenders served alcohol without verifying identification.
The officer left the house and met Zdanowicz outside. Zdanowicz, the membership development vice president according to his LinkedIn, allegedly hosted the party and knowingly served alcohol to underaged people, according to the report.
Zdanowicz was arrested around 4:49 a.m. and faces charges for hosting an open-house party and allowing minors to consume alcohol.
The charge is a second-degree misdemeanor in Florida and is punishable by a maximum 60 days in jail.
The officer also pulled aside a 19-year-old female attendee holding an open can of Busch beer. She will be charged with underage drinking, according to the report.
