With only four games remaining in the regular season, the Gators are turning the corner to finish strong. They looked to improve their Southeastern Conference record before going on the road for their last two matches.
As doubles play concluded dramatically, Florida continued its superiority in singles. Ultimately, senior Pablo Perez Ramos called game with a 7-6 (7-1) final-set win.
Florida (13-10, 5-6 SEC) vanquished Vanderbilt (15-10, 4-8 SEC) 4-1 on Thursday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
“To be honest, we needed that one, that was a match that we had to have,” said Florida men’s tennis coach Adam Steinberg.
Doubles began the dual match as each court traded shots. Vanderbilt took a majority of the first games, but Florida quickly responded.
With the best doubles record on the court, freshman Andreas Timini and junior Kevin Edengren lived up to the stats, advancing their season doubles record to 12-4. The pairing earned the first part of the doubles match with a 6-2 victory.
“That’s why the guys call them the Invincibles,” Steinberg said. “We didn't expect that team to be doing what they're doing … couldn't be happier for those two guys.”
As the other two courts fell 4-3 in Vanderbilt’s favor, the Gators were tested.
It came down to Florida senior Pablo Perez Ramos and junior Adhithya Ganesan who took on Vanderbilt sophomore duo Pablo Martinez Gomez and Callum Markowitz. The Gators survived a 5-5 set and then forced a deciding tiebreaker set on a crucial deuce point. The duo granted Florida its first point of the match with a dominant 7-6 (7-4) win.
The action on court one looked similar to that of court two as the Gators fought back and won two straight games to tie the set 5-5. The No. 8 duo of junior Henry Jefferson and senior Tanapatt Nirudorn took on No. 20 freshman Hoyoung Roh and senior Nathan Cox for a back-and-forth conquest. After falling in the 11th game, they came right back to force the tiebreaker set but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-1).
Singles began and ended with full Gator control.
Ramos started things as he continued his takeover. The Spaniard dueled freshman Jack Satterfield. He stole the first set 6-3 with another deuce point win and continued his five-game win streak with the final 7-6 (7-1) set of the day.
Thursday was also a day filled with win streak extensions.
Edengren went undefeated on the day and also extended his singles win streak to four. He battled freshman Hwang Donghyun for another 6-2 first-set victory. The Swede secured his fifth straight set victory of the season with the 6-4 win.
“First set I came out strong,” Edengren said. “I just stayed calm, trusting myself and played some really good serves, which helped out a lot. I’m happy to get through that one.”
To continue, the junior from London, England, followed closely as he came back to steal the first set 6-4 from Cox. Jefferson grabbed the second point for Florida with his deuce point 6-2 straight set win.

Florida junior Jeremy Jin had a chance at another straight set victory, but Ramos’ win cut the contest short.
A pause in Gator's first set victories came as senior Lorenzo Claverie fought valiantly, but fell 6-3 to No. 88 Roh. As the second set began, he responded with his own 6-3 win with a backspin return close to the net to seal the deal. Claverie was spared from defeat thanks to Ramos’ late-game heroics.
The same could not be said for Ganesan as defeat crept up on him. He lost 7-6 in the first set at the hands of No. 79 Gomez and was the only Gator who could not recover, as he fell 6-1 in the last set.
Florida will finish its last two home games of the season on Saturday during a doubleheader. They will first take on Louisiana State University (22-5, 8-4 SEC) at 12 p.m. and finish off against Presbyterian College (9-6) at 5 p.m. at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
