Candlelit vigil for Karan Khullar
Feb. 27, 2017On Monday, about 100 stood on Turlington Plaza to mourn the death of Karan Khullar, a 22-year-old foreign exchange student who died on Feb. 11 after he was hit at a bus stop by a drunken driver, police said.
EGGSPERIMENT
Feb. 27, 2017Students in Karen Melvin’s kindergarten class participated in an “Eggsperiment” on Monday. The activity was part of a series of events celebrating Black History Month at Littlewood Elementary School. The class studied different colored eggs and predicted what they would look like on the inside, before cracking them open to see if they were right.
IMPACT DOMINATES IN SPRING ELECTIONS
Feb. 22, 2017An amendment to allow online voting failed, along with 10 other amendments to UF's Student Government Constitution on Wednesday. Impact also won 48 of 50 Senate seats, with one independent candidate winning a Graduate seat and a write-in candidate winning a seat for the College of Dentistry.

Firefighters Finish Strong
Feb. 8, 2017New hires with Gainesville Fire Rescue continued participating in drills on Wednesday afternoon. They will graduate from their training today and become probationary firefighters.
Robin Hood Performance
Feb. 5, 2017Dance Alive National Ballet performed “Robin Hood” at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts this weekend. The ballet was choreographed by Kim Tuttle, the executive artistic director of the company.
Burrito Brothers closes after 40 years
Feb. 5, 2017Burrito Brothers Taco Co., a restaurant that over the past 40 years had become one of Gainesville’s most prized institutions, closed on Saturday. The restaurant sold about 1,500 burritos Saturday. It started turning people away at about 6:30 p.m. — after all of its food was gone.

Jan. 21, 2017More than 15,000 protestors braved sporadic pouring rain to show their opposition to President Donald Trump in Tallahassee on Saturday. They marched a mile behind a banner reading "All families deserve justice and security."
Getting Involved
Jan. 18, 2017Hundreds of students came through the Reitz Union lawn to check out some of UF’s organizations and get free pizza at the Spring 2017 Student Organization Fair on Wednesday. The fair was hosted by the Department of Student Activities and Involvement and the Involvement Team. It ran from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Organizations and clubs, from the Hip-Hop Collective to the UF Data Science and Informatics Student Organization, tabled on the lawn to give information to prospective club members. Whether it was geocaching, Japanese culture, a club for first-generation college students or the Theatre Strike Force, there was a booth at the Spring 2017 Student Organization Fair helping students get involved on campus.
