Chris Rose II, 30, stands by his car across the street from the buyback event. Rose was among a handful of private collectors who offered to buy the weapons from people at a higher price before they could be turned in to police and destroyed. Rose, a pool technician from Waldo, said he believes the event is “an egregious use of taxpayer dollars,” but buybacks are a place where enthusiasts can get a good deal on a weapon. “This is basically your cheapest gun show that you’re ever gonna be at,” Rose said.
