Law school to host Clarence Thomas

U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas will be speaking at the UF Levin College of Law today at 10 a.m. in the Marcia Whitney Schott Courtyard.

Thomas, who spoke at the Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport Tuesday, will answer questions from a panel of four law students chosen by faculty, according to Debra Amirin, law school spokeswoman.

Admission to the event is closed to the general public. However, a live Web cast of the event will be displayed on the law school’s Web site.

Thomas, who is not being paid for his appearance, is the fifth Supreme Court justice to visit UF’s law school in the last five years.

“It speaks well of the power of the Gator Nation,” Amirin said.

According to the UF Levin College of Law Web site, 700 tickets were available for the event.

The other justices who have visited UF include Chief Justice John Roberts, John Paul Stevens, Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
