Jordan Mazurek, 28, is detained by an ACSO deputy on Monday after taking a construction cone. He was arrested for larceny, a second-degree misdemeanor.

While dozens gathered at the Alachua County Jail Monday in protest, two men were arrested by Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The protest, hosted by Fight Toxic Prisons, the Legal Empowerment and Advocacy Hub, Gainesville Industrial Workers of the World and MAMA’s Club, sought to raise money through a crowdfunding website to post bail for fathers in honor of Father’s Day.

ACSO deputies set up a designated area for protestors, who were instructed to stay within a construction cone perimeter, according to a police report.

One protestor, 28-year-old Jordan Mazurek, of Lexington, Kentucky, reportedly took one of the cones, placed it in his car and sat down in the driver’s seat. When approached by a deputy, Mazurek asked, “Is this about the cone?”

Thomas Tackett, 23, of Jackson, Michigan, witnessed the interaction and left the designated protest area. According to the report, he approached the deputies and corrections officers in a hostile manner, chanting, “Let her go!” after another protestor was detained. Tackett did not follow warnings from deputies to return to the protest area and continued approaching. He was taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs, according to the report.

Mazurek was arrested for larceny, a second-degree misdemeanor. Tackett was arrested for trespassing and resisting an officer, both first-degree misdemeanors.

Tackett was released on his own recognizance as of Tuesday, according to the clerk of court records.

Mazurek was released on his own recognizance Monday prior to his first appearance.
