You may have seen them on clothing racks and wondered, am I in the right section? Isn’t this for 10-year-olds? Who the hell would think this is cute?

Yup, you guessed it—the Peter Pan collar.

Even though this trend that may take getting used to, the Peter Pan collar is a cute look that any girl can pull off. And it doesn’t matter how badass you are; with the right style and design, this unique look will switch up your wardrobe and expand your style horizons.

And the trend was inspired from Peter Pan, so it has to be awesome anyway.

The Peter Pan started trending after Maude Adams wore this look as her costume when she played Peter Pan in 1905. Believe it or not, this look has even been a part of women’s fashion even longer than the 1900s.

Recently, the collar inspiration revived and can be found everywhere. From shirts to dresses, the Peter Pan collar is offered in an assortment of designs and styles. It doesn’t even matter how picky you are; there is bound to be one variation that will complement your body type and taste of style.

If your fear is that it will make you look like a 12-year-old, then don’t pair the trend with child-like accessories and accessorized hair. Balance the look with fabulous, simple jewelry, bottoms and shoes.

The image above depicts the perfect balance to pulling off the typical, whimsical Peter Pan collar. Simply pair the shirt with a patterned skirt or skinny jeans to make the outfit look sophisticated and not childish.

If you choose to wear a Peter Pan collar on a dress, then balance it out with heels or leggings and flats. Necklaces are usually not worn with this type of collar because it’s so high, but if you find one that you think will work then go for it!

Let’s be real: not every trend is going to work for you or turn out to be your favorite. But if you never step out of your comfort zone and try it, then you might be missing out on a great look for others to be jealous to be about. So rummage through those Peter Pan collared dresses and shirts and find the perfect one for you.
