After taking a two-week break, the Campus Crime By the Numbers Blog is back. Sorry for the wait, but rest assured: Delinquents haven't changed their ways.

Crimes from Feb. 3-10 range from the silly (driver's license violation) to the serious (robbery) to the as-of-now mysterious (hazing).

Concerning the latter, here is what we know: Alpha Phi Alpha is suspended until an investigation looking into hazing allegations is completed. The hazing apparently began on Jan. 9 and someone, whose identity has not been revealed, reported the practice to UPD on Feb. 4.

Continue to follow The Alligator this week as more details will surely come out.

Now, let's look at all the crimes reported on campus:

Party Fouls:

  • UPD busted four people with drugs on or near campus. Three people received notices to appear; the other person was arrested.
  • On a related note, police caught three people with drug equipment. Interestingly, one of those people was found with equipment but no drugs. Perhaps some people buy bongs because they look nice.
  • Three people were booked for driving under the influence. UPD pulled over two people on University Avenue. The other person was found on Gale Lemerand Drive and was also charged with a liquor law violation.

Five-finger discount

  • Four incidents of burglary were reported on campus. All four cases are still pending.
  • A 17-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly snatching a UF senior's keychain wallet at the intersection of Newell Drive and Inner Road.
  • A scooter theft was reported in the large commuter parking lot. UPD has not made an arrest.
  • Police referred an alleged car thief to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution on Thursday night.

Other violations

  • A more aggressive person was charged with resisting arrest with violence.
