Recent news about Japan offering 10,000 free flights to foreigners has been circling the Internet.
The initiative is supposed to start in April 2012, but it is still under government approval and is undecided.
The Japan Tourism Agency is trying to boost tourism using this new initiative. Potential visitors have to fill out online applications detailing which areas they want to visit, according to a Telegraph article.
The flight will be free, but other costs, such as accommodations, will be the responsibility of the fliers. The chosen fliers will be asked to write a report about their trip that will be published online.
According to the article, the number of foreign visitors to Japan fell 50 percent from the previous year during the three months after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that triggered meltdowns and explosions at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
