Since the warm weather is still going strong, I decided to make a part two of my swimsuit post from last week. If you missed it, check out this season’s bathing suit trends here.
I was lucky enough to spend my weekend attending my cousin’s beautiful beach wedding in Clearwater. I got in a little beach time on Saturday which is evident by the hand shaped sunburn I have on my leg.
While laying on the beach and people watching, I realized that not only is style important when it comes to swimsuits, but fit is just as - if not more - important that style. Swimsuits are just like a great fitting pair of jeans; each body type requires a different fit. No one is perfect. That being said, we all have some sort of flaw that we’re trying to work with.
Check out the following tips—which discuss the most common body shape issues—to know what to look for on your search for summer’s hottest swimwear.
Small on top
While you may think this is a curse, it’s really a blessing in disguise when it comes to swimwear. Girls who are smaller on top can get away with wearing many of the trends this season such as ruffles, fringe and bandeau tops. Girls who are small on top can also get away with wearing the skimpy triangle tops that girls who are larger on top can only dream of wearing.
Larger on top
For girls who are a bit larger on top, look for swimsuits that provide extra support such as halter tops or ones with an underwire. As stated above, avoid bandeau tops, string triangle bikini tops and those with elaborate accents like ruffles.
Muffin top
This tip is for those of us who have been spending too much time in Library West and not enough at Southwest Rec. The monokini/cutout one-piece is not only stylish, but it works wonders! You can conceal your tummy while looking sexy at the same time. Check out last week’s post for more information on these trendy suits.
Too much junk in the trunk
For girls who are a bit bigger on the bottom, trade in the super skimpy bottoms for ones that have wider straps. The best way to take attention away from a larger bottom is to focus on the top. Try pairing solid colored bottoms with a busier print on the top.
