Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a grease fire in unit No. 75 of Williamsburg Apartments at 2000 SW 16th St. late Friday afternoon.

Upon arrival, eight fire and rescue units discovered heavy smoke billowing from the two-story complex, according to GFR, which said a resident sparked the blaze when deep-fry grease used for cooking caught fire.

The blaze took 12 minutes to put out, and soon after, a search of the four Williamsburg units showed no injuries. GFR said nine residents of adjoining units were displaced due to apartment damage and were provided with temporary residences by Williamsburg management.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
