UF Student Government announced Emmy-winning actress Britt Lower will be the university’s next Accent speaker. She is scheduled to take the stage on Nov. 13 at University Auditorium.
Lower is known for her role as Helly R. in the Apple TV thriller series “Severance.” Last month, she won Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Emmy Awards.
Lower earned her communication degree from Northwestern University in 2008. Her first major role was in 2010 in sitcom series “Big Lake.” From then, she went on to act in numerous movies and television series before starring in “Severance” in 2022.
The Accent Speakers Bureau, run through SG, has hosted influential speakers at free shows for students since 1967. Notable speakers include “Impractical Jokers” member Sal Vulcano and former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow.
Last year, Ke Huy Quan was the university’s Accent speaker. Then-chair of the journalism department Ted Spiker moderated the conversation on Asian representation in media, as well as Quan’s acting career.
In August, Accent hosted “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston, known for playing anti-hero Walter White in the series. Cranston gathered a crowd of over 4,000 students for the event as he spoke on his acting career and gave students advice on overcoming life challenges.
Nathan Feuerberg, the Accent Speakers Bureau student chairman, said the agency was in a great spot, citing large student turnouts at previous events.
“It could be easy to get complacent, but that couldn’t be further from my intentions,” Feuerberg said at Tuesday’s meeting.
Accent events serve as opportunities for students to gain insight into complex and controversial topics, he said.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring in such a terrific actress for the next semester," Feuerberg said. “We’re focusing on bringing talents that students genuinely want to see.”
SG will release more information about Lower’s appearance closer to her speaking event.
