Check out two festivals this weekend

The two events - Total Bummer and the Feathers Music Conference - will be occurring simultaneously at a whole host of venues throughout our good city, some shows ranging from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until the early morning hours.

Total Bummer, perhaps better-known between the two, is a celebration of the "lofi underground" philosophy. According to the myriad fliers strewn across town, "Total Bummer is a musical vacation of the mind, body, and spirit." No less than 90 bands will be there, 16 of which are locals and 53 of which are from out-of-state . The three-day bash will be spread across six venues: Spin Cycle Bike Shop, Wayward Council, The Kickstand, The Atlantic, the Gainesville Civic Media Center, and the South Main Community Arts Center. If you don't already have weekend passes, you'll have to shell out $35 for last-minute tickets, or you can purchase a one-day pass for $15. For more information, including a full schedule and the entire list of bands, visit totalbummer.net.

The other festival is the Feathers Music Conference, put on in part by the mysterious frontman of the Miami band Peasants With Feathers and dedicated to experimental rock, hip-hop, and art. This one's much more than just music; DJs, art, workshops, and vendors will occupy the entire block surrounding The Laboratory (818 West University Ave). The four-day event starts tonight and will run you $30 for a full pass. For the deets, visit feathersmusicconference.tk.

And, be sure to check out the Alligator's Local MusiCast, a weekly Tuesday podcast dedicated to Gainesville music, at alligator.org/blogs/musicast.
